Olga BrunnerOlga Brunner, MS, CMC, CSA
Founder and President

Olga’s entire career has been in health care administration including hospital and long term care; geriatric therapeutic activities planning; and geriatric care management.  As a long term care Activities Director, she had responsibility for care planning, budgeting, marketing, staffing, and was responsible for the psycho-social needs of her residents.  Olga holds an M.S. in Health Administration with nursing home licensure from Lynn University in Boca Raton and is a certified assisted living administrator.  She facilitates a dementia support group at her office for Families and Caregivers on the third Wednesday of every month, is a training provider for the department of Elder Affairs, and a member of the National and Florida Chapter of Professional Geriatric Care Managers.  Because certification is the bellwether of professional geriatric care management, she has achieved the designation of Care Manager Certified (CMC) a membership requirement recognizing care managers having a specific knowledge and expertise.  Known for her direct, honest and intelligent way of looking at problems, she is a respected problem solver who has also had personal care giving experience, having cared for her own mother who had a dementia-related disorder.  This dedication explains her drive and high standards towards caring for her clients.

As Brunner recently stated, “There has been a serious need for our kind of comprehensive geriatric care planning because keeping a parent who has dementia living safely at home can be a very overwhelming and stressful experience for family members, especially when living out of town.  Our goal is to help clients attain the best possible care and services using an interdisciplinary approach.”  In keeping with this goal, our Elder Care Management office is shared with a geriatric psychiatrist and a psychiatric nurse practitioner with ties to the Boca Raton community.

History of NAPGCM

“Geriatric Care management” is still becoming universally recognized as “the holistic approach” to dealing with the needs of clients and now responds to a wide range of needs, including medical, financial, social, housing, family and personal needs. As the face of care management was changing, the association and the profession began to change as well.  Technology, in the form of the NAPGCM Web site and member listservs, has enhanced members’ and consumers’ access to information. New products and conferences provide the tools with which members can improve their businesses and stay abreast of the latest trends in their profession.

NAPGCM has grown steadily -- from 50 members in 1986 to over 2,000 in 2006, with a budget that has grown from $25,000 in 1986 to over $700,000 in 2006. The NAPGCM Board of Directors continues to meet the demands of the changing elder care environment through careful strategic planning, education, marketing and public relations, chapter development, and communication with its members and the public.
